Earning quality links goes hand in hand with having a quality website that has tons of quality content. When you have a great website with great content, people will start to backlink you in their own content naturally. If you make seriously high-quality content, people will find it, read it, and link to it on their own websites.
They may have referenced your blog as a source in their own blog. When other people backlink you, it means they trust you as an expert in your industry. Google and other search engines see this and rank you higher as a result.
Sometimes people may mention your website without linking you. This is likely because you’ve created content they found to be useful, but they just didn’t add the backlink to your site.
There are tools to find mentions of your website or content that aren’t linked. It’s always a good idea to contact them to see if they’ll backlink you.

Search engines don’t reward poorly made websites with random content. There is no proof that the website is trustworthy.
The best websites have many, if not all, of these characteristics:
- Brand awareness … you know who they are already
- Helpful … they answer your questions
- Quality … they provide you with valuable content
- Integrity … they follow through on promises
- Trustworthy … other people say good things about them
